To find suitable trails for Roller skiing is not always the easiest thing to do. We prefer wide trails, smooth surface and if possible no traffic! Especially pole grip is important that's why we try to avoid concrete trails. Our aim is to have a comprehensive list of trails from all States and Territories so you can have the best time Roller skiing. WESTERN AUSTRALIA
1. South Perth to Perth Stadium (return), this approx. 11 km trail is one of WA's best Roller skiing trails. The Trail runs along the Swan River, past Burswood complex to the new Perth Stadium. You can extend the ride by crossing the bridge (Causeway) to Maylands or East Perth. Car park via Coode street, South Perth ( Skate & Classic, suitable for beginners)
2. Trigg Beach to Sorrento Lifesaving club (return), it doesn't get much better than skiing along the Indian ocean! Approximately 11 km return on great trails with some elevation. Parking on both sides available. West Coast Drive ( Skate & Classic, Advanced )
3. John Wilkie Tarn - Burns Beach (return), this 10 km return trail is also coastal, fantastic track through the dunes along the Indian ocean, some elevation which requires good braking skills.Parking on both ends, John Wilkie tarn via Whitfords avenue, Burns Beach via Ocean parade ( Skate & Classic, Advanced )
4. Woodbridge - John George Trail, great 5 km return trail, perfect to practice or having a relaxed ski along the Swan river, wide an quiet trail ( avoid Sat. 8 AM as Park run is hosted there.) Parking on both ends and suitable for all levels of skiers. Enter via First Avenue, Woodbridge or Bernley Drive,Viveash. (Skate & Classic, All levels)
5. Rottnest Island, 4km - 22km loops. The ultimate experience for Roller Skiers. Visit Rottnest island situated 18 km of the Perth coast ( Ferry approx $80, more info at rottnestisland.com). The island offers you everything you can imagine. White Beaches, pristine water, wildlife and amazing trails. Choose between 3 loops 4 km,10 km & 22 km or explore all the trails around the island. The big loops include elevation and we recommend them only to advanced skiers. Take the day and back you bathers. You won't regret taking the trip. This is Roller ski paradise! (Skate & Classic)
6. Champions Lake - Regatta center, 5 km loop around the lake. The perfect training track. Wide and smooth trail with an 2 km straight on one side,500 m markers perfect for interval and sprint training. Enter car park via Henley Drive. Usually quiet but can get busy with regatta or cycling events. (Skate & Classic, All levels)
7. Zig Zag, Gooseberry Hill. This is the perfect trail to work on your fitness. Short but over 40 m vertical meters to climb,ideal to get the heart rate up. CAUTION!! This is one way traffic for cars from Lascelles parade (Top) to Ridge hill rd. Small car park on Ridge hill rd but plenty of space at Lascelles parade end. (Skate & Classic, All levels)
VICTORIA
1. Studley Park, Tear Drop Loop. Approx. 8 km. One of Melbourne's best trails for Roller skiers. This park is closed for cars and has wide and smooth trails along the Yarra river and Golf course. Access via Yarra Bend Rd ( Skate & Classic, Advanced skiers only )
2. Gardiner's Creek Trail, approx. 20 km return from Glenferrie Rd to East Malvern Golf club. trails follow Gardiner's Creek all the way. Parking is limited at Glenferrie rd but plenty at Malvern Golf course. ( Skate & Classic, All Levels)
3. Main Yarra Trail return, approx 11 km from Princes bridge to MacRobertson Bridge (Toorak). good Trail along the Yarra river but some sections on concrete. (Skate & Classic, All Levels)
4. Royal Park ( Parkville), Large system of bike trails around the park with various different starting points. ( Skate & Classic, All Levels )
5. Point Nepean National Park, for something different visit this amazing national park area 90km from Melbourne. Spend the day Roller skiing and exploring the area. The national park includes heritage listed buildings from 1852, World war II buildings and relics and amazing Ocean Views. ( Skate & Classic, Advanced)
ACT - Canberra
1. Stromlo Forrest Park - Criterium Circuit, 1.2 km smooth and exceptionally high quality surface. Great for training and venue of the Australian Roller Ski Championships.
2. Bicentennial National Trail, starting from Pat Rubly Park off Mackellar crescent,this trail with slight decent/ elevation is often used by the Australian XC team for their time trial sessions. Braking skills required (Skate & Classic)
NEW SOUTH WALES
1. Centennial park Sydney CBD, 2,5km short but great area for roller skiing in the CBD. smotth surface and wide trails. Can get busy especially on weekends. Great for beginners. (Skate & Classic )
2. Lane Cove National Park, sitting north of Macquarie University this park offers many trails and attractions. Stay on the south end of the park for sealed trails. ( Advanced skiers )
3. North Head Manly, one of Sydney's most scenic locations for Roller skiing. It is a more demanding trail and we recommend it only to experienced skiers. ( Advanced/skilled skeirs)
4. Sydney Olympic park / Newington Armory, one of Sydney’s most unique heritage precincts adjacent to the scenic Parramatta River,open every weekend. Within the Olympic park there are 35 km of sealed trails, The Park offers a network of quality on-road cycle lanes for race training, on smooth surfaced roads with low traffic (outside event times). Access via Jamieson street. Suitable for all levels of skiers (Skate & Classic)
5. Oatley Park, you can find a good network of sealed trails. Some are used by local cycling clubs and suitable for more experienced skiers as sections include climbs. (Skate & Classic)
6. Warrath Cycling Track, a custom road cycling track in Sutherlands. Enter via Rawson avenue, build for social and training rides and can be a good tarck for a quick roller ski training if you are close to the area check with local clubs if the track is used for events. All levels of skiers (Skate & Classic)
7. Nepean river Cycling way, west of Sydney in the town of Camden, this approx 4 km one way track leads along the Nepean river cycle way. Mostly concrete to
8. Moss Vale to Bowral, along the Wingecarribe River this approx. 5.5 km one way track south of Sydney
9. Botanic gardens Picton, starting near the Botanic gardens along the Picton bike track approx. 3km one way
SOUTH AUSTRALIA
1. Adelaide - Victoria park Criterium track, distance 1.1 to 1.4 km. It is 9 meters wide and is home to criterium racing and pedal prix events. Enter track from Wakefield Rd. Conditions of use apply, make sure you read them before you head out.
QUEENSLAND
1. Nundah Criterium Circuit, located in Albert Bishop Park, Hedley Avenue, next to the Schultz Canal bike way. The circuit is about 1.2 km long, six meters wide, and signed for clockwise travel only. It is flat and fast, with a long, straight finish of about five hundred meters. There is also a shorter loop of about three hundred meters.
2. Murarrie Criterium Track, located at 1182 Wynnum Rd Murarrie. The track is 1.4km long, 6m wide and surface in good condition. Ideal for practice no matter your skill level.
